Thundery bursts of rain this weekend then turning milder and drier next week

Much uncertainty in the prospects for a mixed Bank Holiday weekend (for some). Thundery rain affecting the southern half of the British Isles, tending to be showery further north. Then, into next week high pressure is expected to build bringing drier and sunny conditions as well as becoming a little warmer.

Sunday 5/5/24
A messy day of weather on Sunday as low pressure dominates. There will be periods of thundery rain over Wales, central and southern England, rather murky too. Heavy showers developing in Scotland and Ireland. Drier elsewhere with some bright spells breaking through the cloud. The best sunshine is expected in northern England. Warm in the sunshine at 16C, but 10 to 12C in the cloud.

Monday 6/5/24
Low pressure remains on Monday, centred over the south of the country. Further periods of thundery rain for much of England and Wales. Northern England should be brighter and drier. Some heavy showers in Scotland and Ireland. Tops at 13 to 16C.



 
 
 

Tuesday 7/5/24
High pressure building into Ireland on Tuesday. A front passing through Scotland bringing some cloud and outbreaks of rain here. Most other areas seeing plenty of cloud, but some sunny spells developing too. Cooler in Scotland at 10C but 17C in sunshine in southern England.


 

Wednesday 8/5/24
High pressure remains on Wednesday. Broken cloud but some sunny spells too. A few showers could develop over northern England and the Midlands. Some thicker cloud in western Scotland with a risk of drizzle here. Highs at 14 to 17C.



 
 
 

Thursday 9/5/24
High pressure over the country on Thursday. Sunny spells and dry weather for many. The best sunshine in the south. Thicker cloud and some rain affecting northern Scotland. Highs at 15 to 18C.

Friday 10/5/24
Pressure stays high through Friday. More spells of sunshine and dry conditions. Some showers in the far west of Ireland and a risk of low cloud and some drizzle in western Scotland. Highs at 16 to 19C.
